Alki Beach is a great place to skim on a negative tide or something close to it. It’s a pretty chill spot because it can’t be seen from the road so if you were just driving by you’d never even know it was there. People who are walking their dogs or rollerblading by are often blown away by skimboarding for one reason or another.

This will be the first contest held at Double Bluff on Whidbey Island.

Location: Double Bluff Park.
Time: Reg @ 9AM / Comp @ 11 AM
Entry (only competitors): $25 Amateur / $35 Pro

Whidbey Island, located 30 miles north of Seattle in the Puget Sound is accessible by the Deception Pass Bridge on the north side of the island via SR 20. It can be reached by ferry as well through the Keystone/Port Townsend and Clinton/Mukilteo routes. This competition will take place at Double Bluff Park located on the southwest side of the island along Useless Bay. The beach here is sandy, flat, and produces tidal pools at low tide that are desirable for skimboarding.

On the island there is a relatively large population of riders, most of which have yet to experience a skimboard competition locally at their home beach. This is an opportunity for skimboarders from all over to come compete, have a good time, and discover a new spot to ride that is full of friendly stoked out locals.

The deep water conditions at Chambers Creek make for great opportunities for ollie-on features, slant walls, trash cans and pipes.

Location: Chambers Creek Park
Time: Reg @ 11AM / Comp @ 1 PM
Entry (only competitors): $25 Amateur / $35 Pro

Chambers Creek, only a few miles from the DB factory is a unique environment that facilitates skimboarding in an unexpected location. In University Place, WA adjacent to the south end of Tacoma, Chambers Creek sprawls into a sandy delta before draining into the Puget Sound. This area is a natural playground for skimboarders and an extremely popular summer hang out for youth in the greater Tacoma area. There is a highly talented group of riders that make this spot their home skim spot.

It was natural progression to introduce an event here in 2007 and has been a hit with the local skimboard community. In contrast to the Dash Point contest the Chambers Creek Throwdown has many more local skimboarders looking for some fun and friendly competition in a laid back atmosphere. Over a hundred spectators line the sand bars to watch the local talent put on a show and have a good time.

The DB Skimboards organizes and executes this annual event but it depends heavily on the support of the local community and sponsors that provide additional funding.
